Derrick Rose Drops 30 On The Mavericks

I know, I know, I know…it’s only pre-season. Still, you have to admit that Derrick Rose dropping 30 on the Mavs is pretty impressive, especially after only scoring 10pts in his first game against them. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think he’s the first one out of this years rookie class to have a 30pt game? OJ Mayo came close last night, he had 28pts. But not only did D. Rose have 30, but he also sunk two critical FT’s to cut Dallas’ lead to one and then hit the go ahead bucket in a game that the Bulls had to come from behind and win. He finished the game going 13-18 from the field and he also had 7 dimes. I don’t expect this to happen every single night, but after following his point production throughout this entire pre-season, a 30pt breakout game is pretty exciting. The real test comes tonight when they play the Minnesota Timberwolves, and not just because the T’Wolves are undefeated in the pre-season. This is a back to back game and we all know that you’re going to get plenty of those in the NBA. The great ones usually give you the same output whether the games are back to back or if there a days off in between. Last week they played the T’Wolves here in Chicago and one of my guys went and he said that he was standing in the tunnel as the players were coming out of the locker room after the game and he said that D. Rose looked “lost” or at least somewhat overwhelmed so far. Last night’s game should really boost his confidence and I would like to see him go hard and be aggressive like that every night. But, if he comes out tonight and only scores 5pts I’ll give him a pass. After all, he’s still a work in progress…but I’m glad that he’s in Chicago. And that’s no Bull!
